Ann Jonczy Pendley

Ann Jonczy Pendley, originally from Louisville, KY, began her music education on violin at age four. She studied violin for twelve years with Ruth French at the Louisville Academy of Music. Ms. Pendley was recruited to play double bass when her middle school orchestra was lacking a bassist, and shortly thereafter began private studies with Sidney King. She then studied with Matthew Zory, Jr. and Chris Roberts at Transylvania University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She received her Master of Music and Artist’s Diploma degrees as a student of Albert Laszlo at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music during which time she served as a graduate teaching assistant for one year. Ms. Pendley also studied with Mr. Laszlo for five summers at the Aspen Music Festival and School, three of which were on fellowship as a double bass mentor.

Ms. Pendley was a member of the Lexington Philharmonic, served as Acting Principal Bass of the Springfield (OH) Symphony Orchestra during the 2006-07 season, and was an auxiliary bassist for the Louisville Orchestra. She was a member of the Starling Chamber Orchestra for several seasons and toured with the orchestra to London and Washington, D.C. She currently performs frequently as an auxiliary with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as with the Ars Nova Musicians and the Slee Sinfonietta. She also enjoys volunteering at the SPCA serving Erie County and the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center. Ms. Pendley lives on Buffalo’s West Side with her husband Daniel and their cat, Gracie.
